The Romexis 2D imaging software module is ideal for capturing and diagnosing images quickly and easily. Due to the software’s adaptive pre-processing filters, all X-ray images are acquired exactly as intended with minimal need for enhancements – from panoramic and intraoral to cephalometric images.

Romexis is the software of choice for viewing and processing 2D images captured with Planmeca X-ray units. Powerful enhancement, annotation and analysis tools help users in all specialities reach accurate diagnoses, while the intuitive interface guarantees excellent usability from day one. Built-in AI features for intraoral imaging further optimise daily workflows, eliminating manual work and saving significant time.
Streamlined intraoral imaging workflow
From bitewing images to customisable full mouth series image templates, Romexis fully supports an intelligent 2D intraoral imaging workflow. Backed by AI, Romexis automatically detects and numbers teeth in intraoral images, adjusts their orientation when needed, and organises them into study templates. Customisable templates allow automatic ordering and tooth numbering of images. When used together with the Planmeca ProX™ intraoral X-ray unit and the Planmeca ProSensor® HD intraoral sensor, all image exposure values are also automatically recorded. Third party sensors and PSP scanners can also be utilised when using a TWAIN driver.
Open and compatible with TWAIN and DICOM support
Romexis supports TWAIN and complies with the DICOM standard, enabling seamless integration with third-party imaging solutions. This means you can use any imaging system in your clinic with Romexis and capture images from any source – still cameras, video devices, third-party dental sensors, PSP scanners, or other digital environments – and store them in one centralised database. All patient 2D images are instantly accessible across your network and can be easily exported in standard formats whenever needed.
Flexible searches
Images in the Romexis database can be easily searched by patient name, the type of diagnosis, or the imaging unit operator. Furthermore, the automatic tooth numbering of intraoral images enables image filtering by tooth number and easy historical comparison of changes – so you can quickly review how a tooth has changed over time.
Integrated document management
With Romexis, it is easy to create professional, high-quality printouts and radiology reports to send to referring dentists – with multi-page support included. You can flexibly add attachments to patient files, such as cephalometric tracing reports or referral letters.
Photo and video storage
All patient photos, videos and documents can be conveniently stored to the Romexis database together with captured X-ray images. You can create templates and patient photos, as well as connect still cameras or scanners with the TWAIN interface, which also allows the automatic import of patient photos into Romexis.
Second Opinion® integration
Romexis includes a seamless integration to the Second Opinion® service, a first real-time dental AI engine that automatically detects numerous conditions in dental X-rays to give dentists a second set of eyes for excellent radiologic accuracy. All annotations and findings generated by the Second Opinion service will be shown and stored directly to your Romexis. Images can be sent to the service on demand and automatically whenever a new image is captured. The service supports all intraoral and panoramic X-rays.
View and share 2D images with complementary apps
A wide range of supporting applications makes it easy to view Romexis images and share them with your partners. We provide a free app for viewing dental images, which can be exported and sent together with images from Romexis. In addition, our fast, lightweight mobile imaging application lets you access images stored in the Planmeca Romexis® database and even capture photos directly with your tablet device.
Grows with your clinic
The 2D imaging software module is the backbone of Romexis, as it is included in all our software bundles. The smile design, 3D imaging or even CAD/CAM module can be easily added to the software at any time – allowing you to grow your clinic flexibly and at your own pace.
